Pulling Our SOCs Up

Vodafone is one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, enabling connectivity by providing mobile, fixed and IoT networks to customers around the world. Vodafone is redefining the boundary of the SOC and sees the balance between prevention, detection and response for both Vodafone’s organization and customers as vital. This session will describe the journey from reactive SOC to proactive cyber-defense.

Speakers: Emma Smith, Andy Talbot

Emma Smith joined Vodafone in 2015 as Group Technology Security Director, responsible for all aspects of information and cybersecurity. Smith is passionate about security. Specifically, about evolving security to protect customers against changing threats and the opportunity to contribute to improving the safety of the communities we operate in. Prior to joining Vodafone, Smith was Security Director and CISO at the Royal Bank of Scotland for seven years. In her role, she was responsible for fraud prevention, information and cybersecurity, intelligence, physical security, business resilience and records management. Before that, she held a number of leadership positions within the Group Internal Audit team at RBS and Royal Mail.

Andy Talbot is Global Head of Cyber Defence for Vodafone. He joined Vodafone in December 2014 and is responsible for all aspects of the end to end cyber-defence capability, including day-to-day cybersecurity operations and strategic transformation. Prior to Vodafone, Talbot held a number of leadership roles at British Telecom, including Security Transformation Director and Director of Security Operations. Previous to that he served as an Officer in the British Army. After Sandhurst, Talbot was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals and retired as a Major in 2002 after his final role at the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency. Talbot is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and Institute of Management.
